Please join us in congratulating Legacy's own John Barata as MIAA's Soccer Coach of the Year! 

As Head Coach of  Oliver Ames High School Boys Soccer Team, John his team to number of accomplishments:

  • United Soccer Coaches Academic Award (3.87 GPA)
  • United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics Award
  • Hockomock Champs (3-peat)
  • 13th MIAA tourney
  • 2 EMSCA All-star
  • 5 HockomockSports All Stars
  • 1 Hock League MVP
  • 1 All-State, All-Region, All-American (Mathias Taylor)

MIAA's Coach of the Year reward is "to recognize and honor “teacher coaches” who have had an impact on the lives of student-athletes, by encouraging them to succeed and by helping them develop self-confidence, ambition, a sound work ethic, and other skills or values necessary or helpful for success in their later lives. Award candidates should have a record of encouraging student-athletes to be well-rounded (i.e. displaying excellence in areas of scholarship, citizenship, fine arts, etc.), as well as a reputation, among their peers and the athletic community, for fair play, good sportsmanship, and the development of these attributes in their student-athletes."
